Functional Lab Testing
Stop Guessing. Start understanding your body.
Stop Guessing. Start Understanding Your Body.
You can eat well, exercise, take supplements, and still feel like something is off.
Maybe you’re exhausted despite getting enough sleep. Your digestion has changed. Your cycle feels different. You’re struggling with bloating, stubborn weight changes, brain fog, painful periods, mood changes, or simply don’t feel like yourself anymore.
And sometimes, conventional blood work comes back “normal” even though you know you don’t feel your best.
Functional lab testing allows us to look deeper.
At Chelsea Marie Wellness, I use functional testing alongside your health history, symptoms, nutrition, lifestyle, stress patterns, and lived experience to better understand the patterns that may be influencing how you feel.
Rather than chasing individual symptoms, we step back and ask:
What is your body trying to tell us?
A Deeper Look at Your Health
Functional testing can provide another layer of information when exploring areas such as:
Hormone and menstrual health
Digestive symptoms and gut function
Energy and fatigue
Nutrient and mineral status
Metabolic health
Stress and nervous-system patterns
Fertility and preconception wellness
Perimenopause and menopause
Inflammation and oxidative stress
Environmental exposures
Overall health, performance, and longevity
Testing is never used in isolation.
Your results become one part of a much larger picture that includes you — your symptoms, history, environment, nutrition, movement, stress, sleep, cycle, and goals.

Minerals are involved in hundreds of processes throughout the body — including energy production, stress response, blood-sugar regulation, thyroid physiology, muscle function, and hormone metabolism.
Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis provides a window into mineral patterns and relationships over time.
Rather than looking only at whether an individual mineral is high or low, I also evaluate the relationships between minerals to better understand patterns involving stress, metabolism, and nutritional status.
HTMA can be especially valuable when exploring:
Fatigue • Stress resilience • Hormone health • Metabolic patterns • Mineral balance • Performance • Preconception wellness
-
Your gut influences far more than digestion.
The GI-MAP uses advanced stool testing to evaluate microorganisms and markers related to the gastrointestinal environment.
Depending on the panel ordered, testing may provide information about bacterial balance, opportunistic organisms, parasites, digestive function, intestinal immune activity, and other gastrointestinal markers.
This may be especially useful when exploring:
Bloating • Constipation • Diarrhea • Reflux • Food sensitivities • Irregular digestion • Brain fog • Skin concerns • Gut-related symptoms
-
Organic acids testing provides a broad look at metabolites produced through many of the body’s biochemical processes.
Depending on the test used, it can offer information related to:
Cellular energy production • Nutrient needs • Oxidative stress • Neurotransmitter metabolites • Oxalate metabolism • Microbial metabolites
I often use the OAT when we want a broader picture of how nutrition, metabolism, gut health, and cellular energy may be interacting.
-
Hormones don’t exist in isolation.
Depending on your needs, comprehensive hormone testing can help us evaluate patterns involving reproductive hormones and their metabolites alongside aspects of the stress response.
This can be particularly useful when exploring:
PMS • Painful or irregular periods • Cycle changes • Fertility preparation • Perimenopause • Menopause • Mood changes • Sleep changes • Changes in body composition
Your symptoms, cycle history, life stage, medications, and other health information are always considered alongside laboratory findings.
-
Our environment is another piece of the health picture.
Specialized testing may be used when appropriate to explore exposure to certain environmental compounds, including mycotoxins and other environmental toxicants.
Testing is selected intentionally based on your history and needs rather than assuming that every symptom is caused by environmental exposure.
-
Fatty acids play important roles in cardiovascular health, cellular membranes, inflammatory signaling, brain health, and hormone physiology.
Omega testing allows us to look at your individual fatty-acid status and balance rather than simply assuming you need more omega-3s.
Which Test Do I need?
You don’t need to figure that out on your own.
More testing isn’t always better.
Before recommending labs, I look at your symptoms, health history, previous testing, nutrition, lifestyle, goals, and what questions we are actually trying to answer.
For one woman, that might mean starting with an HTMA.
For another, we may need to investigate gut function.
And for someone with multiple interconnected concerns, a more comprehensive testing approach may make sense.
Testing should have a purpose.
My Approach
Test → Understand → Rebuild → Reassess
A lab report isn’t the end goal.
Feeling better in your body is.
Once your results are available, we review them together and look for meaningful patterns within the context of your complete health picture.
From there, I develop an individualized wellness plan that may incorporate:
Clinical nutrition
Food and meal strategies
Targeted nutritional supplementation
Herbal support when appropriate
Mineral repletion
Gut-supportive strategies
Movement and recovery
Sleep and circadian support
Stress and nervous-system regulation
Mind-body practices
Lifestyle and environmental modifications
Then we reassess.
Because your plan should evolve as your body evolves.
Functional Testing for Women Through Every Season of Life
My work is centered around helping women better understand and support their bodies through the transitions that can change our nutritional, metabolic, hormonal, and physiological needs.
Adolescence
Building strong nutritional and metabolic foundations.
Fertility + Preconception
Supporting the health of the body before conception.
Pregnancy + Postpartum
Rebuilding and replenishing after the enormous physiological demands of pregnancy, birth, and motherhood.
Perimenopause + Menopause
Understanding changing hormone, metabolic, mineral, and recovery needs as the body transitions into a new season.
Performance + Longevity
Using personalized health data to support strength, energy, resilience, and long-term vitality.
Your Labs Should Tell a Story
Numbers on a page are only data.
The real value comes from understanding how those numbers relate to your symptoms, your history, your lifestyle, and each other.
My role is to help you connect those dots and create a practical path forward.
